Columbia River wins the 2024 2A-State Title
The 2024 Columbia River Rapids earned their 25th state tournament appearance and ultimately brought home the state championship trophy. In the regional round of the State playoffs, they were matched up vs White River (W, 4-1) and W.F. West (W, 6-3). In the State Semi-Final game held at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham, they defeated the Lynden Lions 2-0 and then advanced to the State Championship game vs the Hornets of Enumclaw. The championship game resembled two heavy weight fighters going toe to toe with one another. Ultimately the Rapids came from behind in the 7th inning to claim victory and the state championship by the final score of 3-2. When asked what he was thinking about during the exciting title game comeback Coach Donohue responded, “Going into the top of the 7th I had a feeling if we could just get our 9 hitter on to lead off the inning we would have a great chance to tie the game or take the lead with the main part of our lineup coming up. As the inning was playing out and when we scored the go ahead run on "the slide" it was a surreal moment knowing we were 3 outs from a state title. When the final out was caught in center field it was an amazing feeling to see all the hard work everyone in our program put in to be rewarded with a state championship.” The 2024 Columbia River team will be remembered as one of the best club’s to ever come out of Clark County.
